2010 saw U.S. ethanol production soar to a new record of 13.23 billion gallons produced from 204 biorefineries. Click here for a list of current and under construction ethanol biorefineries. Ethanol has become a ubiquitous component of our nation’s fuel supply, as it is blended in virtually every gallon of unleaded gasoline in the U.S. Efficiency enhancements and innovations in production combined with improved farming techniques allowed the U.S. ethanol industry to achieve this record with existing corn acreage and reduced process water. New technologies are poised to join the marketplace, creating ethanol from cellulosic feedstocks, further enhancing America’s ability to provide a renewable, sustainable alternative to imported oil.
